We chose Williamsburg on purpose
This neighborhood runs on exactly the brains we treat all day: founders who can’t shut the engine off, creatives whose focus won’t hold, high-maskers who’ve played “normal” so long it looks easy.
So we put the practice in the middle of it. Floor 4 at 134 Broadway, on the south side — the quieter end of the neighborhood, between the bridge and Bedford.
Walk out of our door and you pass the gyms, studios, and saunas half our patients already use. That’s not a coincidence. Movement is a first-line tool here, not an afterthought — more on that below.

Getting here
J / M / Z — Marcy Av
The closest subway. First stop over the Williamsburg Bridge; about an 8-minute walk down Broadway to our door.
NYC Ferry — Schaefer Landing
The East River route stops at South Williamsburg (Kent Ave at S 9th) — about a 10-minute walk. It also connects Greenpoint (India St) and Manhattan.
G train — Broadway
From the Broadway stop (Union Ave), walk straight down Broadway — about 12 minutes.
L train — Bedford Av
Honest answer: it’s a 20-minute walk from Bedford Av, or a short B62 ride down Driggs. North-siders often prefer the ferry.
Telehealth
Licensed across New York State. Most follow-ups happen by video; come in when it counts.
Williamsburg’s patients, as we actually meet them
The founder on fumes
Raised the round, shipped the product, hasn’t slept properly in a year. Burnout, anxiety, and “is this ADHD?” in one body. Psychiatry for founders →
The creative whose focus won’t hold
Deadlines met by adrenaline, projects abandoned at 80%. Sometimes it’s the industry; often it’s undiagnosed adult ADHD. We test before we treat.
The high-masker
Reads the room perfectly and goes home wrecked. Late-diagnosed autism and masking are a core specialty. Adult autism evaluation →
The one who “has it together”
Delivers at work, white-knuckles the rest. High-functioning anxiety and quiet depression are the neighborhood’s open secret.

Your gym might be tax-free
Williamsburg has more boutique fitness per block than almost anywhere in America — and almost everyone pays for it with after-tax money.
Here’s the mechanism most members don’t know: if a diagnosed condition is part of why you train, a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) from a psychiatrist can make that spending HSA/FSA-eligible — when it’s clinically justified.
1 — The evaluation ($199)
A real psychiatric assessment, not a rubber stamp. If there’s no legitimate clinical case, we say so — that’s what makes the letters that do go out audit-proof.
2 — The letter
We document how a specific activity treats your specific diagnosis — the standard your HSA/FSA administrator and IRS Publication 502 actually require.
3 — The reimbursement
You submit the LMN to your HSA/FSA administrator and keep your receipts. How to use it, step by step →
Where the neighborhood already trains
These are the Williamsburg spots our patients name most — by category, with the kind of clinical case an LMN can document:
Strength & conditioning
Equinox (246 Bedford Ave) · Barry’s (510 Driggs Ave) · Orangetheory (157 Kent Ave)
Structured exercise as documented treatment for depression, anxiety, ADHD, or burnout recovery.
Reformer & Pilates
[solidcore] (90 N 3rd St) · East River Pilates · Good Day Pilates
Somatic resistance work for the muscle tension and stress physiology that ride with anxiety.
Yoga & cycling
Y7 Studio (170 S 1st St) · SoulCycle (196 Kent Ave)
Breath-led movement and high-intensity cardio for mood regulation and sleep.
Recovery & contrast therapy
Bathhouse (103 N 10th St)
Sauna and cold-plunge protocols as an adjunct in anxiety and sleep treatment plans.
Climbing
VITAL Climbing Gym (221 N 14th St)
Movement-based focus training inside adult ADHD care plans.

We have no business relationship with the studios named above — they’re neighborhood references, not partners. An LMN documents medical necessity for your diagnosis; it is not a guarantee of reimbursement. Your HSA/FSA administrator makes the final call.

Frequently asked questions
Where exactly in Williamsburg is the office?
134 Broadway, Floor 4, Brooklyn, NY 11249 — on the south side, one block west of Peter Luger. Marcy Av (J/M/Z) is about an 8-minute walk, the South Williamsburg ferry landing about 10 minutes, and the G at Broadway about 12 minutes.
Do you take insurance?
Yes — in-network with Aetna and UnitedHealthcare (including Oxford and Oscar plans) in NY. Self-pay with the clinical team is $200 per session, and we provide superbills for other PPO plans.
Can my gym membership really be paid with HSA/FSA money?
Sometimes. If a licensed clinician determines that a specific activity treats a diagnosed condition, a Letter of Medical Necessity can make that spending HSA/FSA-eligible. The evaluation is $199, it is a real clinical assessment, and not everyone qualifies. Your plan administrator makes the final call.
How fast can I be seen?
Our Intake Director calls every new inquiry within 1 business day. Intakes are often available the same week when slots are open.
Do you offer therapy, or only medication?
Both. Somatic psychotherapy is offered in-house, alongside psychiatric evaluation and medication management. We are a movement-first practice: sleep, exercise, and metabolic work sit alongside — and often ahead of — prescriptions.
Do you see patients outside Williamsburg?
Yes. In-person patients come from across Brooklyn — Greenpoint, Bushwick, Bed-Stuy — plus Manhattan and Queens over the bridge or by ferry. By telehealth we see patients across New York, Florida, and New Jersey.

Finding a psychiatrist in Williamsburg, Brooklyn — the real options
Search “psychiatrist Williamsburg” and you mostly get directories: Zocdoc filters, Psychology Today lists, aggregator pages ranking other aggregator pages. Very few actual practices with an actual front door in the neighborhood show up — because very few exist.
Psychiatry in Motion is one of them. Our office has been at 134 Broadway since the practice began, and the neighborhood is not incidental to how we work.
Who actually lives here
Williamsburg concentrates a specific clinical population: tech founders and startup employees, finance professionals a bridge away from Manhattan, film and creative workers on brutal schedules, and a large community of late-diagnosed ADHD and autistic adults who’ve masked their way into their thirties.
That maps directly onto what this practice does all day — adult ADHD evaluation, late-diagnosed autism and masking, OCD, anxiety, depression, and tech-sector burnout, including medical leave documentation when time away from work is the treatment.
How the practice is built
The model is capacity-built. Dr. Ahmed Al-Katib, MD — board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology — supervises every case, while specialized clinicians run intakes and ongoing care.
That team structure is why Leann, our Intake Director, can return your call within 1 business day, and why intakes are often available the same week when slots are open — against the multi-month waitlists that define in-network psychiatry in north Brooklyn.
Movement, written into the plan
It’s also why movement is written into treatment plans here rather than mentioned on the way out. The neighborhood’s fitness infrastructure — from Bathhouse’s cold plunges to VITAL’s bouldering walls — is a clinical asset, and when it’s clinically justified, a Letter of Medical Necessity can make it HSA/FSA-eligible.
