An Aetna Psychiatrist in NYC. Use the Benefits You Already Pay For.
You pay thousands a year in Aetna premiums — and the psychiatrists who take it have waitlists, while the ones who answer the phone want cash.
We fixed the trade-off: a board-certified Aetna psychiatrist in NYC, in-network in NY, with benefits verified before your first visit and intakes often available the same week when slots are open.

How your Aetna plan works here — step by step
1. You reach out
Book online or call. Our Intake Director, Leann, calls you back within 1 business day and takes your member ID — the number on the front of your Aetna card.
2. We verify before you walk in
Our admin team runs your eligibility with Aetna before your first visit: copay amount, whether a deductible applies, and any visit limits. You get the number in advance. No surprise bills, no chasing faxes.
3. You pay your copay. That’s it.
For most commercial Aetna plans in NY, an in-network psychiatry visit costs you a specialist copay. High-deductible plans pay the contracted (discounted) rate until the deductible is met — we tell you which situation you are in at step 2.
4. We bill Aetna directly
Claims go from us to Aetna. You never file paperwork for in-network care.
Covered services, in plain English
Psychiatric evaluation
The full diagnostic intake with our clinical team — history, symptom mapping, and a real plan. Not a 15-minute med check.
Adult ADHD evaluation
Yes — we accept Aetna for comprehensive ADHD evaluation, including the clinical interview and symptom mapping.
Start with the free screeners →Medication management
Ongoing follow-ups, in person or by telehealth anywhere in New York State — billed to Aetna the same way.
Anxiety, depression, OCD & burnout care
Including the medical documentation when burnout requires time away from work.
The fine print, honestly: plans vary. Some Aetna plans (EPO vs PPO vs HMO, employer carve-outs) handle behavioral health differently, and premium add-ons like lab panels or concierge pathways are not insurance products.
That is exactly why step 2 exists — we verify your plan and quote your cost before you commit to anything.
Aetna in Florida or New Jersey: the honest answer
Our Aetna contract is in NY only. We treat patients in Florida (telehealth, Dr. Al-Katib is FL-licensed) and New Jersey (in-office team care), but as out-of-network providers there.
That means: you pay the session rate, we hand you a superbill, and Aetna PPO plans typically reimburse a portion directly to you. Preview your numbers with the free out-of-network calculator before you decide.

Frequently asked questions
Do you take Aetna?
Yes — we are in-network with Aetna in NY, for both in-person care in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and telehealth anywhere in New York State.
Which Aetna plans do you accept?
Most commercial Aetna plans in NY. Because employer plans vary (EPO, PPO, HMO, carve-outs), we verify your specific plan with your member ID before your first visit and tell you exactly what it covers.
What will a visit cost me with Aetna?
Typically your specialist copay. If your plan has an unmet deductible, you pay the contracted in-network rate until it is met. We quote your exact number after verifying benefits – before you book, not after.
Do you take Aetna for ADHD testing?
Yes. We accept Aetna for the full comprehensive ADHD evaluation in NY, including the clinical interview and symptom mapping.
I have Aetna in Florida or New Jersey. Can you see me?
Yes, but out-of-network: we treat FL patients by telehealth and NJ patients through our clinical team, you pay the session rate, and we provide a superbill for Aetna PPO reimbursement. Our free calculator estimates what your plan pays back.
How fast can I be seen?
Our Intake Director calls within 1 business day, and intakes are often available the same week when slots are open.
Stop paying cash for covered care.

Finding a psychiatrist who takes Aetna in NYC — why it’s hard, and how to do it right
Here is the structural problem no directory will explain. In-network psychiatry pays physicians a contracted rate well below the NYC cash market, so most private psychiatrists in New York simply do not join networks — and the ones who do are either large volume clinics or have waitlists measured in months.
The result: Aetna’s own directory is full of profiles that do not answer, do not take new patients, or quietly left the network years ago. Members call ten numbers and give up. That is not a you problem; it is the market.
Why we stay in-network anyway
Psychiatry in Motion stays in-network with Aetna in NY on purpose, and makes the economics work with a team model instead of churn: Dr. Ahmed Al-Katib, MD — board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology — supervises every case, while our specialized clinicians run intakes and ongoing care.
You get copay-level pricing AND a practice that texts you back (we run the Spruce app for direct messaging), metabolic and lab-informed care, and movement, sleep, and nutrition protocols alongside careful prescribing.
The premium experience and the insurance card were never supposed to be mutually exclusive.
How to vet any Aetna psychiatrist in NYC (including us)
- Verify network status directly with the practice, not the directory — directories lag reality by months. Ask: “are you in-network with my specific Aetna plan, and will you verify my benefits before the first visit?”
- Ask who does the intake. A supervised team model gets you seen in days; a solo MD calendar gets you a waitlist.
- Ask what happens beyond the prescription. If the answer is a 15-minute med check every 3 months, keep looking.
- Check the credential: board certification is verifiable on the ABPN site; Dr. Al-Katib’s profile is on Psychology Today and Zocdoc.
What we treat for Aetna members
The practice’s specialties are adult ADHD (evaluation and treatment for high-functioning professionals), late-diagnosed autism and masking, OCD, anxiety and depression, and burnout — including the medical documentation for burnout-related medical leave in NYC.
In person we are at 134 Broadway in Williamsburg, easy from anywhere in Brooklyn and Manhattan; by telehealth we cover the whole state. Full pricing, including self-pay and the concierge pathways, is on the pricing page.
