Does your wellness routine qualify as medical treatment?
Four questions. Sixty seconds. We’ll show you which tier you fit and what to do next.
How the LMN qualifier works
The Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) is the document that turns “gym membership” into “medical treatment” under IRS Publication 502. It’s a one-page clinical letter, signed by a licensed physician, that ties a specific wellness expense to a specific medical condition. Once you have it, your HSA, FSA, or Schedule A itemized deduction starts accepting the expense as eligible.
This quiz checks three things: (1) do you have the financial vehicle (HSA / FSA / Schedule A) that can accept the expense, (2) do you have a qualifying medical reason per IRS Pub 502, and (3) what interventions are you actually using so we can map the LMN to your real life.
The three tiers
Strong fit — you have the financial vehicle AND a clear medical driver (burnout, chronic stress, anxiety, insomnia, musculoskeletal issues). The PIM Pre-Tax Protocol (a one-time $199 clinical audit + LMN) is the direct path. Most patients save $2,000–$3,000+ in the first year.
Probable fit — you have a qualifying medical driver but you’re missing the financial vehicle (no HSA / unsure / Schedule A only). You qualify clinically, but you’ll either need to set up an HSA or itemize properly.
Worth exploring — your stated primary driver is “general fitness,” which doesn’t meet IRS Pub 502 on its own. But many high-functioning adults have latent burnout, sleep issues, or chronic stress underneath general-fitness routines — especially in NYC. We recommend a free clinical screener (burnout, ADHD, or stress) before deciding the LMN isn’t for you.
